4 Reasons To Not Write On Another Platform
A valid yet unpopular opinion I would guess.
--
I have to be completely honest with you, I signed up on another writing platform.
I have read about all of the benefits to diversifying, mainly exposure and cash, and I took the plunge.
I signed up with Simily.
Don’t get me wrong. Simily is a welcoming sight with many attractive features. I was drawn to the profile page. It was fun to set up and looks great.
Registering was super easy. Email, username, profile page, banking if you so choose, and away you go. You can write for free or join with 3 different monthly packages.
Medium writers can import stories easily. Then you start to gain followers, views, comments, connections and eventually there is a pot of money to be divided for paying members. This is based on views.
Simily is in the infancy stage. Some believe it is a really good time to get in on this start-up writing platform. The number of current writers is under 5,000.
So what is my problem? Why am I saying that it might not be a good idea to write on another platform?
Here Are My 4 Reasons Not To Write On Another Platform:
TIME: Who has the time? Registering, reading the instructions, setting up banking, setting up profile page, posting, reading, following, commenting, and making genuine connections takes so much time. Who has the time?
SPREADING MYSELF TOO THIN: I try to write quality stories, respond with genuine comments, and have sufficient time to read your articles. I discovered the entire time I was writing on Simily, my mind was drifting back to Medium. I was starting to comment and follow on Simily and thinking about how I would really like to spending my precious time. That is writing on Medium.
I FELT LIKE I WAS CHEATING: I felt like I was cheating on the Medium Community and myself. I know this sounds silly. But I realized I don’t really want to make new connections with writers on another platform. I don’t know if this is that time thing again, or whether I have just really become attached to all the writers here. I recognize your names now, your writing style; I share enthusiasm for your success and your accomplishments. I don’t want to feel bad because Susie from Simily has commented on one of my posts and I genuinely would rather just be back spending my time writing on Medium.
MEDIUM IS THE BEST OF THE BEST: I think what I have realized having explored other writing platforms is that Medium really is the best. It is sleek, sophisticated, it has the kinks worked out, it is rigorous, it demands good work, it rewards fairly, and I am proud to say I write for Medium.
For these reasons, for the time being, I have decided to remain loyal to Medium. This is where I will concentrate my precious time and effort.
What about you?
Happy writing.
