Taoists believe that people are born with the virtues of kindness, justice, respect, honesty and love. As we go through life the negative emotions of stress, anger, worry, fear, sadness and grief can begin to dominate and deplete our healthy energy.

Taoists believe that all of our organs carry emotional energy. Simply put, it follows that negative energies can damage our organs causing ill health, anxiety and depression. It is no one’s fault, life happens.

I would like to share with you a very simple tool, easily implemented, to recharge and increase positive energy and health. Let’s all practice turning these negative emotional feelings back into the positive virtues we possessed at birth.

That routine of cultivating the inner smile is one such activity freely available to everyone. And it doesn’t take much time.

Here is what you do:

  1. Position yourself on a chair with your two feet flat on the floor. As you close your eyes try to feel your connection through your feet to the earth below.
  2. Imagine yourself or someone you love smiling in front of you.
  3. Imagine that your are drawing this smiling energy into your forehead and surrounding yourself with it. Relax and try to visualize and feel the energy like waves rolling through your body.
  4. As this smiling warm energy spreads, imagine it surrounding and touching your internal organs. Some organs may need more care. You will know. Spend as much time as you feel is necessary.
  5. As you spend this time smiling at each of your major organs, you will begin to feel a positive warm energy spreading throughout your body. Try to collect these positive vibrations at the base of your spine and allow yourself to take several deep breaths. You should feel this delicious warm energy start to seep into your entire being. Now return your focus to that loving smiling face in front ot you.
  6. Allow more positive energy to flow through your body, healing all of your organs.
  7. Take several deep breaths and be aware of the calm and peace. Visualize this sensation in your body and place your two hands over your heart.
  8. As you encounter stress and anxiety throughout your day, keep your internal awareness on that imaginary smiling, loving energy in front of you. This visualization will bring more of that positive feeling into your body and fill you with a lasting sense of peace and relaxation. These positive vibrations overtime will act to heal you mind, body and soul.

I challenge you to practice cultivating the Inner Smile daily for one month.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised!
