Don't fret about curation. I have found it is more about following Medium formatting guidelines than anything else. Medium is fussy about correct fonts, titles, subtitles, quotes and such. Just follow their recommendations and you will get "chosen for further distritubtion." It is definitely "not everything." All the best!
