Stress, negativity, illness, and complaining can wreak havoc on our brain health. Neurons are stripped away and our cognitive functions decline. The stress hormone cortisol plays a role. Cortisol raises inflammation. So do some foods.

That being said, there are many nutritional things we can eat that help to reduce inflammation and heal our brains.

These foods include:

Spinach, broccoli, kale and collards. These four vegetables are high in lutein, beta carotene, and vitamin K, all known to slow down cognitive decline.

Blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries are rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants can help to give memory and brain health a boost.

Omega-3 fatty acids are very important for brain health. These fatty acids can be found in avocado, olive oil and flaxseed. Through their anti-inflammatory properties, they can improve concentration and mood.

Serotonin makes us feel good. This neurotransmitter can be found in the carbohydrates in whole grains and vegetables. Serotonin acts to aid sleep, mood and concentration. Selenium, another important mineral is found in certain vegetables, tuna, and eggs. Selenium may also boost cognition and mood. Brazil nuts are one of the top sources of this rich nutrient.

Avoid heavily processed foods. Natural foods including fish, seeds and vegetables are best due to their high Omega 3 content.
