On January 22nd I wrote an article titled Solid Scientific Proof That Intermittent Fasting Can Dramatically Improve Your Health.

In this article, I talked about the major health benefits of intermittent fasting. This information I read in a book titled Ouch, The Pain of Modern Civilization.

The potential health benefits are weight loss, lower blood sugar, reductions in asthma, less arthritis, inflammation and cancer.

I decided to take the challenge. I just completed week four of intermittent fasting.

I eat dinner and then don’t eat again for 12 to 13 hours. Simple as that!

I didn’t think I could do it but I succeeded.

The first week was rough. I was starving in the middle of the night. I think my rumbling tummy woke me several times.

After the second week, wonderful things started to begin happening.

  • My digestive issues have cleared up. My sensitive stomach improved by about 75%.
  • My skin has become softer and clearer. I have a bit of a glow.
  • My breath is fresher in the morning.
  • My teeth feel better.
  • I have lost 4 pounds.
  • My cravings for sweets has diminished.
  • My cravings for salt has diminished
  • My sleep has improved.
  • My mood has improved
  • I just feel better!

In addition to the intermittent fasting, I have attempted to reduce my consumption of refined sugars and grains, and have increased fruits, vegetables and lean proteins.

Was the sacrifice of not eating after dinner until morning worth it?

It definitely was! Once I got through the first week and started to feel better, there was no looking back.

I will continue on this intermittent fasting journey for as long as I can.

Intermittent fasting does require a little sacrifice, but for me the health rewards have far outweighed any initial discomfort.
