WHY YOU HAVE TO LAUGH: THE IMPORTANCE OF HUMOR!

Humor is much more powerful than most of us give credit. Yes, we all have experienced the positive effects of a good belly laugh. Stress levels go down, we feel calmer, and for a moment, we are able to take ourselves and life less seriously.

Are you aware that being funny is one of the best ways to ensure good health. If fact, it is one of the most positive things you can do for your body and mind. Humor has been described as an immune jolt for your brain.

At minimum, a good laugh exercises our diaphragm. This results in more oxygenated air and stimulates your lungs. This relieves physical tension in all of our muscles.

Humor has been shown to help prevent depression. Negative stimuli can cause people prone to depression to descend into depressive states. However, re-framing a negative situation into something funny acts as a type of emotional cleanse preventing further descent.

In addition to keeping our minds healthy and preventing depression, humor has been shown to increase a person’s overall quality of life. This equates to higher self esteem, greater self competency, less anxiety, more confidence in social situations and a more positive personality.
